Bryggens Bastion in Copenhagen
domis and JCN Bolig have received a building permit from the City of Copenhagen for Building Plot C at Bryggens Bastion on Amager, in close proximity to Islands Brygge, university environments, businesses, and the metro. Realization of the project will begin immediately, and the apartments are scheduled to be ready for occupancy in less than two years, in spring 2028.
Building Plot C comprises 176 modern rental apartments in multi-storey apartment blocks totaling approximately 11,000 m² and represents the first phase in the development of the final four building plots, which together will include around 52,000 m² of residential and commercial space. domis is the project developer and has selected JCN Bolig as the design-and-build contractor.
Since 2021, domis has been working purposefully to mature the project. In close collaboration with JCN Bolig and the advisory team, a development has been created that matches market demand while meeting high standards for quality and sustainability, including DGNB Gold certification and a low LCA value.
Managing Director of domis, Andreas Hommelhoff, says:
“We have been ready to get started for some time, so we are pleased that the building permit has finally been granted. We are now focusing all our efforts on being ready to welcome residents in spring 2028. domis has had—and continues to have—a very strong collaboration with JCN Bolig on this project, and we look forward to realizing our clear ambition: to create attractive apartments that combine high quality with a strong focus on sustainability in one of Copenhagen’s most sought-after districts.”
The development will be constructed as a classic, enclosed perimeter block of up to eight storeys, with clear architectural references to the surrounding block structures. At the same time, the building will have its own distinct identity, using high-quality, durable materials that create a cohesive architectural and tactile expression. The shared outdoor areas will be developed as an integrated part of the entire Bastion area, contributing to a cohesive and vibrant urban district.
Sales and Development Director at JCN Bolig, Lars Adamsen, adds:
“Bryggens Bastion is a large-scale and complex project—and it requires the right combination of experience, structure, and execution capabilities. We are proud to have been chosen as a partner and look forward to delivering a project that meets both market expectations and high ambitions.”
The project is a continuation of the long-standing strategic collaboration between domis and JCN Bolig, who share a clear ambition to also realize the remaining three building plots. The two parties already have a solid track record together with several prominent residential projects in Aarhus, including Journalisten, Risskov Brynet, and Ovenvande in Skanderborg.
At the same time, JCN Bolig has significantly strengthened its position on Zealand in recent years with projects in, among other places, Hvidovre, Herlev, Rødovre, Allerød, Nordhavn, and Sydhavn. The Bryggens Bastion project marks another important step in that development.
domis, which is part of the Hommelhoff Group, is among the country’s leading project developers, with a growing portfolio of large-scale urban development projects. The company is behind developments such as Åhusene, Pakhusene, and the iconic Lighthouse building in Aarhus. Across its projects, there is a consistent focus on value creation, quality, and long-term solutions.
