Renovation

The renovation of the first apartment block in connection with the implementation of the master plan for Gellerup. It was thus a significant project, where the best ideas were used with the next apartment block.

The projected consisted of bracing the existing apartment block with steel structures. A stairwell was demolished and then a load-bearing steel girder structure was installed. Here the “Gellerup Gate” with two new storeys was built across the continuous newly established road. New entrances were established in the remaining four stairwells as twice-as-high and bright entrances, all extending to the ground, so that the entrance is from the ground level.

92 apartments were renovated with new windows, new water and heating installations and the establishment of a ventilation system. New bathrooms were installed in the apartments in the form of prefabricated bathroom units, fitted horizontally from the façade. Everything else was executed with respect for the original building, which is a part of the Gellerup district designed by Black Petersen and built 50 years ago.
