domis and JCN Bolig Continue the Development of Bryggens Bastion in Copenhagen
domis has purchased the final four construction plots at Bryggens Bastion and has chosen JCN Bolig to build the first project. Plot C comprises 176 apartments covering approximately 11,000 square meters. All four plots at Bryggens Bastion feature a mix of residential and commercial spaces, totaling around 52,000 square meters.
Bryggens Bastion is located in Amager, in the heart of Copenhagen, just 2.2 kilometers from City Hall Square. The construction plots are bordered by Ørestads Boulevard, Amagerfælledvej, and Njalsgade. Neighbors include Islands Brygge, the Statens Serum Institut, and the University of Copenhagen.
In 2021, domis acquired the site containing the final four construction plots from the previous developer, Bach Gruppen, who wanted to divest the land. Even before the acquisition was finalized, domis had already begun working with JCN Bolig on planning the development. Extensive time and resources have been invested in calculating and designing the project to create a high-quality development that meets both market demand and domis' sustainability standards.
After a long and constructive process, all pieces have finally come together, and thanks to the skilled advisory team, we have created a project we are truly proud of.
Andreas Hommelhoff, CEO of domis, states:
“The collaboration with JCN Bolig and the advisors has been a good process with a shared goal of creating the best possible environment for future residents. At the same time, we are fulfilling the visions of the local plan by designing well-planned and functional homes of various sizes, combined with an ambitious focus on green outdoor spaces. The fact that the project will achieve DGNB Gold certification and comply with point 7.1 of the EU taxonomy underlines just how important sustainable construction is to us.”
The project will be built with architecture that complements the surrounding developments while maintaining its own unique identity and materiality. Outdoor areas are coordinated across the entire development, creating a cohesive identity for all buildings in the area.
Lars Adamsen, Sales and Development Director at JCN Bolig, adds:
“The process around Bastionen has spanned several years because patience, good collaboration, and thorough groundwork are vital for realizing projects of this magnitude.”
domis is owned by the Hommelhoff Group, headquartered in Aarhus, and is one of Denmark’s major project developers. domis is a prominent property player and has completed several large projects in cities such as Aarhus and Copenhagen. JCN Bolig is one of Denmark’s largest turnkey contractors for B2B residential construction. Both domis and JCN Bolig are known for their integrity, a value that will also be a guiding principle in the realization of Plot C at Bryggens Bastion.
Plot C will be a closed courtyard block reaching up to eight stories, comprising approximately 11,000 square meters of residential space and 4,000 square meters of basement. JCN Bolig and domis have a mutual intention to continue their close collaboration on the remaining three plots.
At JCN Bolig, we are very excited to begin work on Bryggens Bastion and to strengthen our partnership with domis. We have previously delivered several prominent residential projects together, such as Ovenvande in Skanderborg and multiple projects in Aarhus, including Journalisten and Vestereng. JCN Bolig has established a strong presence in the Zealand market, which was a significant factor in domis' decision to choose JCN Bolig for a project of Bastionen's scale.
In recent years, JCN Bolig has expanded its presence on Zealand, constructing residential projects for various professional developers and pension funds in municipalities such as Hvidovre, Herlev, Rødovre, Allerød, Nordhavn, Sydhavn, and now centrally in Copenhagen with Bryggens Bastion.
domis’ philosophy is to contribute to sustainable urban development and create places where people want to live and stay — a vision that JCN Bolig will now help bring to life at Bryggens Bastion.
