319 student apartments

The school of journalism is changing from being a closed educational building to an open and inviting communal building for the whole district and its neighbours. The aim is to retain an develop the architectural and cultural heritage. 
 
Colours and forms define the new building, which consist of 319 individual residential units with a total area of 9,700 m2 and 10 communal rooms with associated balconies, a gym, storage room, laundry and underground car park, in total 2,000 m2. The façades are inspired by the school of journalism’s colours and materials, the colourful interior, the vivid geometry and the robust concrete.
 
The small student apartments contain a kitchen, living-room, bathroom, sleeping alcove and a French balcony. The integrated kitchen and flexible storage ensures the optimal utilisation of the small apartment. The area generally uses robust and tactile materials, where the project’s façades primarily consist of concrete.

The roof terraces are encircled by a rolling parapet while the ventilation exhaust, stairwells, roofs and fitness equipment are integrated in clear colours and shapes – transformed from generic installations into integrated objects.
